Kailash Nath, also known as Bhoothnath (played by Amitabh Bachchan), finds himself in the *Bhoothworld*, where he is mocked and questioned about his abilities as a ghost. His inability to scare children has left him with a tarnished reputation. Determined to redeem himself, he returns to India and attempts to frighten children, but modern kids have grown stronger both physically and mentally, making his efforts futile. However, a boy named Akhrot (played by Parth Bhalerao) can see Bhoothnath in his true form. Instead of being scared, Akhrot helps Bhoothnath scare other children. In return, Akhrot asks Bhoothnath to act frightened of him, allowing him to impress his peers and gain entry into their cricket team.
Bhoothnath continues to assist Akhrot by helping ghosts living in under-construction high-rise buildings find peace by fulfilling their lingering desires. Through this process, they uncover the tragic stories of the ghosts’ deaths and help their families claim insurance money by intimidating corrupt officers. Along the way, they encounter Bhau (played by Boman Irani), a former criminal turned corrupt politician. Witnessing the widespread corruption in India, and inspired by Akhrot, Bhoothnath decides to run for office in the upcoming elections.
The rivalry between Bhoothnath and Bhau intensifies, leading Bhoothnath to sacrifice his supernatural powers to secure victory. On the eve of the elections, Bhoothnath plans a rally to encourage voter turnout. Bhau’s henchmen threaten to harm Akhrot unless he sabotages the rally, but Akhrot refuses to comply and stands firm.
On the day of the rally, Bhau’s men severely injure Akhrot as punishment for his defiance. This forces Bhoothnath to abandon his rally and rush to the hospital to be by Akhrot’s side. The story highlights themes of courage, integrity, and standing up against corruption.
