Description: Bhaagamathie is a 2018 film that begins with Eshwar Prasad, a politician who promises to step down if the government fails to recover stolen idols within six months. His rivals devise a plan to tarnish his reputation with the assistance of CBI Joint Director Vaishnavi Natarajan and Assistant Commissioner of Police Sampath.
Their strategy involves interrogating IAS officer Chanchala, a close associate of Eshwar currently imprisoned for the murder of her fiancé Shakthi, who was Sampath’s brother. To avoid public attention, they move Chanchala to the abandoned Bhaagamathie Bungalow, rumored to be haunted, for questioning. Despite their efforts, Chanchala insists on Eshwar’s innocence, hinting at his integrity without providing direct evidence.
Later, the spirit of Bhaagamathie, the bungalow’s former queen, possesses Chanchala. A psychiatrist is called in and diagnoses her with schizophrenia, believing she is adopting a fictional persona. He recommends sending her to an asylum. Sampath, however, suspects her behavior is a ruse and consults a spiritual guru. The guru detects signs of paranormal activity, and Sampath eventually finds proof of supernatural occurrences in the house. He also witnesses Chanchala harming herself under the ghost’s influence, leading him to transfer her to a mental hospital.
During a visit to the asylum, Eshwar discovers that Chanchala orchestrated the entire plan to escape the CBI in exchange for a 300 crore kickback. It is also revealed that Eshwar had pressured Chanchala to kill Shakthi to cover up his involvement in a welfare project scam.
