Description: Ashley, a spoiled child, receives a new gift and tosses aside her old teddy bear. That night, the teddy bear drags her into a closet and gouges out her eyes. Jack, a struggling toy designer, relies on his parents until they die in a tragic accident on his 35th birthday. Ten months later, Jack faces financial difficulties after losing their support, dealing with mortgage payments, and being persuaded by a man named David to sell his house. Jack also feels overshadowed by his colleague, Richard, who won the designer of the year award. After his toy designs fail, Jack is demoted to a lower-paid position instead of receiving a promotion.
To start anew, Jack decides to sell his house, pack his belongings, and reluctantly discards his favorite childhood toy, a stuffed puppy named Benny. However, Benny destroys Jack’s other plush toys, prompting him to call the police, who dismiss his concerns and mock him. At work, Jack meets Dawn, a tech consultant, and they begin a relationship.
At home, Jack discovers David’s severed head on his bed and, the next morning, finds his body in a chair with blood everywhere. Jack cleans up the mess and narrowly avoids suspicion when the police return to retrieve something they left behind. After Benny kills Jack’s cat with a lawnmower, Jack makes Benny promise not to harm anyone else.
Inspired by Benny, Jack creates new toy designs that impress his boss, Ron, and his relationship with Dawn deepens. A realtor shows a woman named Tara Jack’s house, but Benny kills the realtor and forces Tara to hide in the attic. Jack is shocked by Benny’s actions and locks him away for a date night with Dawn.
Benny escapes and kills Ron’s dog, Precious, with a hatchet. Dawn shares a tragic story about her father tripping over her favorite doll, Amy, and dying. To protect Dawn from Ron, Jack stages Precious’s death by throwing the dog’s body onto Ron’s car.
