Description: In the 2000 film *Bedazzled*, the Devil uses a computer simulation to assess human souls and identify their weaknesses for exploitation. The focus turns to Elliot Richards, a socially awkward and overly enthusiastic man stuck in a mundane job at a San Francisco tech company. Elliot is lonely, ignored by his colleagues, and infatuated with his coworker Alison Gardner, though he lacks the confidence to approach her. After being abandoned by his coworkers at a bar, where he attempts to talk to Alison, Elliot exclaims that he would do anything to be with her.
The Devil, appearing as an alluring woman, overhears his plea and offers him seven wishes in exchange for his soul. To test the deal, Elliot wishes for a Big Mac and a large Coke. The Devil takes him to McDonald’s, but Elliot must pay for the meal, as “there’s no such thing as a free lunch.” Convinced, Elliot signs a contract, and the Devil grants his wishes. Each wish places Elliot in different scenarios with Alison and his coworkers in altered roles, but the Devil always adds unexpected twists that ruin his desires.
After five wishes, Elliot is arrested when he confides his story to a priest who assumes he’s drunk. The Devil, disguised as a police officer, locks him up and hints that she enjoys his company. In his cell, a friendly inmate advises Elliot that his soul belongs to God and that, despite the Devil’s attempts to confuse him, he will ultimately discover his true self and purpose. When Elliot questions the man’s identity, he receives the cryptic reply, “a really good friend.” Unbeknownst to Elliot, the inmate is God in human form.
