Description: **Battle Los Angeles 2011: Overview**
A series of mysterious objects, initially thought to be meteors, crash into oceans near 20 major coastal cities worldwide. These objects turn out to be spacecraft carrying hostile extraterrestrial forces. As Los Angeles undergoes evacuation, Marines from Camp Pendleton, including Staff Sergeant Michael Nantz—a seasoned Iraq War veteran—are deployed. Despite his impending retirement, Nantz is assigned to the 1st Platoon, Echo Company, of the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, under the command of 2nd Lieutenant William Martinez.
The platoon establishes a forward operating base at Santa Monica Airport. With the alien ground forces lacking visible air support, the Air Force plans to carpet bomb Santa Monica. The platoon is given three hours to rescue civilians trapped at an LAPD station in West LA. As they advance, they face ambushes and suffer heavy casualties. Nantz leads a small team to locate missing Marine Lenihan, encountering an alien and joining forces with soldiers from the 40th Infantry Division and Air Force Technical Sergeant Elena Santos.
At the police station, they find five civilians: Michele, a veterinarian, and children Kirsten, Amy, and Hector, along with Hector’s father, Joe. An evacuation helicopter arrives but is unable to carry the civilians. Shortly after takeoff, it is destroyed by alien drones, killing several Marines.
The group commandeers a transit bus for evacuation. Santos reveals her mission: to locate and destroy the alien command center, which could disable the drones. During their escape, the bus comes under attack on a freeway, forcing the Marines to rappel to street level. In the ensuing battle, Marines Stavrou and Mottola, along with remaining National Guard soldiers, are killed, while Joe and Lieutenant Martinez are wounded.
The film follows the Marines’ relentless fight to protect civilians and uncover the key to defeating the alien invasion.
