Description: In 1941, Lyudmila Pavlichenko, a university student, celebrates passing her entrance exams by visiting a shooting range with her friends, including her classmate Masha. Her exceptional shooting skills catch the attention of the Red Army, leading to her recruitment into a sharpshooting program. Despite a Jewish doctor named Boris expressing interest in her, Lyudmila declines and joins the fight on the Eastern Front after Germany’s invasion during World War II.
On the battlefield, Lyudmila is paired with Makarov, an experienced sniper, with whom she develops feelings. However, Makarov, still grieving the loss of his family, does not reciprocate. Lyudmila reunites with Masha, now a nurse engaged to a pilot. During the defense of Odessa, Lyudmila is wounded and rescued by Makarov, who takes her to a hospital where Boris is serving as a doctor. Upon recovering, Lyudmila persuades Boris to allow her to return to the front, only to learn of Makarov’s death and the Soviet retreat to Sevastopol.
Back in action, Lyudmila teams up with another sniper, Leonid. Initially, her brutal tactics horrify him, but their bond grows, and they fall in love. Masha, now a frontline nurse, invites them to her wedding, but tragically reveals her fiancé’s death. This prompts Lyudmila to share her desire to have a son with Leonid.
During a patrol, Leonid triggers a mine, leading to an artillery attack. Injured, Lyudmila wakes in a hospital where Boris informs her of Leonid’s death. Despite her exhaustion, she is tasked with eliminating a top enemy sniper for propaganda purposes. The deadly duel lasts an entire day, and in a moment of desperation, Lyudmila steps into the open, risking her life to end the standoff.
