Description: Batman: Gotham Knight is a 2008 animated superhero anthology film based on the DC Comics character Batman. The movie features six distinct segments created by Japanese animation studios Studio 4°C, Madhouse, Bee Train, and Production I.G, in collaboration with DC Comics and Warner Bros. Animation. Set between the events of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, the film follows Batman as he confronts Gotham City’s criminal underworld and various villains. While it is said to fit within The Dark Knight trilogy, the anthology’s storyline is not essential to the main films’ continuity. The segments are written by Josh Olson, David S. Goyer, Brian Azzarello, Greg Rucka, Jordan Goldberg, and Alan Burnett. This film is the third installment in the DC Universe Animated Original Movies series, following Superman: Doomsday and Justice League: The New Frontier. Rated PG-13 for stylized violence and bloody imagery, it was marketed as the first PG-13 animated Batman movie, though the unedited version of Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker (2000) holds that distinction. Batman: Gotham Knight is also notable for being the first DC Animated Original Movie to connect with another Batman medium. In the United Kingdom, it received a 15 rating due to its intense scenes of violence and injury, whereas earlier releases in this series were rated 12.
