**Storyline:**
Six months after the defeat of the Court of Owls, Batwoman confronts a group of criminals in Gotham City, including Electrocutioner, Tusk, Firefly, Killer Moth, and others. Batman arrives during the chaos and battles the group’s masked leader, known as “the Heretic.” The Heretic detonates explosives planted in the facility, seemingly killing Batman as he saves Batwoman.
Two weeks later, Alfred Pennyworth sends a distress signal to Nightwing. Meanwhile, Bruce Wayne’s 12-year-old son, Damian Wayne, learns of Batman’s disappearance while at a monastery in the Himalayas and decides to return to Gotham. As Batwoman’s alter ego, Katherine Kane, meets with her father, Jacob Kane, she expresses guilt over Batman’s presumed death. Katherine’s past is marked by tragedy—her sister and mother were abducted and killed by captors while she alone survived. After a troubled stint in the military, she was saved by Batman from street thugs, which inspired her to become Batwoman and take control of her life.
Soon, Batman seemingly reappears, but Robin and Katherine quickly realize it’s Nightwing disguised in an older Batsuit. Together, they investigate the Heretic, convinced Bruce is still alive. The Heretic and his gang attack Wayne Enterprises, forcing Lucius Fox to open the vault by threatening his son, Luke. Despite Nightwing and Damian’s intervention, the Heretic escapes with Wayne technology, leaving Lucius injured. Before fleeing, the Heretic kills Electrocutioner as he attempts to murder Robin.
The Heretic returns to his hideout, where it is revealed he serves Damian’s mother, Talia al Ghul. They are holding Bruce captive, and the Mad Hatter is slowly brainwashing him. In a shocking turn, the Heretic invades the Batcave and kidnaps Damian.
