**Storyline:**
In Gotham City, young Bruce Wayne falls into a dry well and is attacked by a swarm of bats, leading to a deep fear of them. While attending the opera with his parents, Thomas and Martha, Bruce becomes frightened by performers dressed as bats and asks to leave. Outside, a mugger named Joe Chill murders Bruce’s parents in front of him. Orphaned, Bruce is raised by the family butler, Alfred Pennyworth.
Fourteen years later, Chill is released on parole after testifying against mafia boss Carmine Falcone. Bruce plans to kill Chill to avenge his parents, but Falcone’s assassins kill Chill first. Rachel Dawes, Bruce’s childhood friend, criticizes him for acting outside the law, stating that his father would be ashamed. After confronting Falcone, who claims that true power comes from instilling fear, Bruce spends the next seven years traveling the world, training in combat, and immersing himself in the criminal underworld.
In a Bhutan prison, Bruce meets Henri Ducard, who recruits him into the League of Shadows, led by Ra’s al Ghul. After mastering ninja techniques and overcoming his fears, Bruce discovers the League plans to destroy Gotham, believing it to be beyond saving. Rejecting their belief that killing is necessary, Bruce escapes and burns down their temple, seemingly killing Ra’s.
Returning to Gotham, Bruce focuses on fighting crime and takes an interest in his family’s company, Wayne Enterprises, now being taken public by the corrupt William Earle. With the help of Lucius Fox, a company archivist and friend of Bruce’s father, Bruce gains access to advanced prototype technologies, including a protective bodysuit and an armored vehicle called the Tumbler. Publicly, Bruce poses as a carefree playboy while secretly establishing a base in the caves beneath Wayne Manor, adopting the vigilante persona of “Batman,” inspired by his conquered childhood fear of bats.
