Description: Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons is a 2022 movie available in English in 1080p and 720p resolutions.

Thanks to the magic of comic book logic, sliding timelines, and the impact of various Crises, Batman and Superman have barely aged over the past eight decades. However, both characters have recently taken a significant step forward by becoming fathers to aspiring superheroes. Damian Wayne and Jon Kent have developed their own devoted fanbases, and fans will likely appreciate how this junior Dynamic Duo is portrayed in “Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons.”

This latest entry in the DC Universe Movies line is not connected to recent releases like 2020’s “Superman: Man of Tomorrow” or 2021’s “Batman: The Long Halloween” duology. Instead, it is a standalone story and the first fully computer-animated film in this long-running series of direct-to-DVD projects. The film draws inspiration from the work of Peter Tomasi and Patrick Gleason, whose “Superman” and “Super Sons” comics established the dynamic between Jon and Damian. This connection is a major highlight of the film.

“Battle of the Super Sons” serves as both an origin story for Jon and a showcase for the first team-up between Superboy, voiced by Jack Dylan Grazer, and Robin, voiced by Jack Griffo. The first act focuses on Jon discovering his emerging powers and learning the truth about his father, a storyline familiar to fans of the comics or the CW’s “Superman & Lois.” From there, Jon reluctantly teams up with the more experienced and slightly pathological Robin, and together they face their first true test as superheroes.

The plot is entertaining, though somewhat predictable. The film unfolds as one might expect, with only a few twists to break the mold of the typical rookie teen hero formula. Like many DC Universe Movies, it feels slightly constrained by its limited runtime. The story might have benefited from diving into the main conflict sooner, rather than spending so much time on Jon’s origin and typical superhero teen tropes, such as a painfully awkward school bully subplot.
