Description: “Batla House,” a 2019 film, follows the story of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sanjay Kumar, who is informed that his team has cornered five university students suspected of involvement in the 13 September 2008 Delhi bombings, claimed by the terrorist group “Indian Mujahideen” (IM). Despite Sanjay’s orders to wait, Inspector Kishan Kumar “K.K.” Verma proceeds with the operation. Sanjay arrives to gunfire and decides to engage. After clearing the building, K.K. is found injured, and Sanjay enters a room where more shooting occurs, resulting in the death of two students, Adil Ameen and Sadiq, and the arrest of Tufail. Two suspects, Dilshad and Javed, escape.
The incident sparks widespread media and political backlash, with accusations that the encounter was staged. Sanjay faces intense scrutiny, and his wife, Nandita Kumar, a news anchor, struggles to support him as he battles Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), often hallucinating about being shot by terrorists. Determined to prove his innocence, Sanjay begins searching for the fugitives. He discovers Dilshad hiding in Nizampur and attempts to arrest him but is thwarted by public and political interference.
After receiving the President’s Medal, Sanjay renews his efforts and tracks Dilshad to Nepal, using his girlfriend, Huma, as bait. Despite careful planning, Dilshad remains cautious, sending someone else to investigate. The film delves into themes of justice, perseverance, and the psychological toll of confronting terrorism.
