Description: In 1999, during the bombing of Yugoslavia, the Slatina airfield was seized by terrorists led by Albanian warlord Smuk. Russian intelligence agents launched an operation to reclaim the airfield. The terrorists were involved in organ harvesting, robberies, assassinations, and ethnic cleansing.
Russian Airborne Troop officer Aslan-Bek Evkhoev and former paratrooper Andrey Shatalov led a small team on a perilous mission to halt the terrorists, retake the airfield, and secure it until reinforcements arrived. They also aimed to rescue Shatalov’s love interest, Jasna Blagojević, and other ethnic Serb prisoners who were targeted for organ harvesting.
“The Balkan Line” is a 2019 Russian-Serbian action film directed by Andrey Volgin, depicting a secret operation to capture Slatina Airport in Kosovo following the bombing of Yugoslavia. The film, inspired by real events led by Yunus-bek Yevkurov, highlights a critical moment in Russian-Western relations. It was released in Russia on March 21, 2019, by 20th Century Fox CIS. The idea for the film originated in 2012, and the script was developed based on a fictionalized account of a Russian peacekeeper’s love story with a Serbian girl. While real operational details remain classified, Yevkurov provided guidance to ensure the film’s authenticity.
