Description: Badri (2001) is a Tamil film that follows the life of Sri Badrinatha Moorthy, known as Badri, a carefree young man who spends his days hanging out with friends, chasing girls, and failing his exams. His father, Viswanathan, a café owner, is frustrated by his irresponsible behavior and constantly scolds him. In contrast, Badri’s older brother, Vetri, a skilled kickboxer and Viswanathan’s favorite son, supports and cares for him.
Badri’s neighbor and childhood friend, Janaki, or “Janu,” harbors deep feelings for him, but he sees her only as a source of money and cars to impress other girls. One day, Badri meets Mamathi, a wealthy college girl, and pretends to be the son of a rich industrialist to win her affection. Despite Mamathi initially falling for his lies, she discovers the truth and publicly humiliates him, leading to his expulsion from home after Viswanathan learns about the money Badri had taken from Janu.
Homeless and desperate, Badri finds solace in Janu, who encourages him to change his ways and regain his father’s respect. Realizing Janu’s true feelings for him, Badri begins to reform himself. Meanwhile, Vetri is severely injured by his kickboxing rival, Rohit, who is also Mamathi’s new boyfriend and Badri’s enemy. Unable to compete in the inter-collegiate kickboxing championship, Vetri’s absence leaves a void. Badri steps in, trains rigorously, and defeats Rohit in the final match, winning the championship.
The film concludes with Badri dedicating his victory to Vetri, reconciling with his father, and finally reciprocating Janu’s love.
