Desperate to complete the mission, the CIA discovers that Pope had a twin brother, Jake Hayes (also played by Rock), who was separated at birth. Their mother died during childbirth, and Hayes, suffering from a severe lung infection, was deemed unlikely to survive long, leading to their separation. Hayes, now a hustler in Jersey City, New Jersey, struggles to make ends meet by scalping tickets and working in small clubs. His girlfriend, Julie (Kerry Washington), grows frustrated with his immaturity and decides to move to Seattle.
The CIA convinces Hayes to join the mission, training him for an operation set to take place in Prague, Czech Republic. Initially, the agency is concerned about Hayes’s lack of refinement, and Agent Oakes (Anthony Hopkins) openly expresses his distrust. As Hayes begins to focus, the CIA places him in his brother’s former Manhattan apartment to test his readiness and lure those responsible for his brother’s death.
