Description: Isabel Aretas, the widow of cartel leader Benito, escapes from a Mexican prison with the help of her son Armando. She sends him to Miami with a mission: recover a hidden fortune left by his father and eliminate those responsible for Benito’s arrest and subsequent death in prison. Isabel insists that Armando kill Miami detective Mike Lowrey last.
In Miami, Mike attends the birth of his partner Marcus Burnett’s first grandson. Marcus, feeling the weight of age, tells Mike he plans to retire, much to Mike’s disappointment. During a celebration for Marcus’s grandson, Mike is shot by Armando and falls into a coma for several months. While Mike recovers, Armando continues to eliminate other targets on his list, despite Isabel’s disapproval for targeting Mike first.
After regaining consciousness, Mike becomes determined to seek revenge. He tries unsuccessfully to persuade Marcus to come out of retirement, which leads to a rift between them. Mike aggressively forces an informant to reveal the identity of arms dealer Booker Grassie. Recognizing Mike’s refusal to step back, Captain Howard allows him to join the investigation team, Advanced Miami Metro Operations (AMMO), led by Mike’s ex-girlfriend Rita. During a surveillance operation on Grassie, Mike realizes the buyers plan to kill him and intervenes, but fails to save Grassie.
Later, Marcus is contacted by an old informant, Carver Remy, who believes he’s next on the assassin’s list. Marcus reaches out to Mike, and they rush to Carver, but Armando kills him before they arrive. Captain Howard shares his plans to retire, offering Mike advice to find a new purpose in life, but he is abruptly killed by Armando shortly after.
