His latest project, *Babli Bouncer*, marks a departure from his usual intense films. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, the director shared insights about the movie and its journey.
The idea for *Babli Bouncer* came to Bhandarkar three years ago, appealing to him due to its unique premise. The film explores the life of a female bouncer, a subject untouched in Indian cinema. Additionally, the title itself is distinctive, as no previous film has used “Bouncer” in its name. Known for exploring uncharted territories, Bhandarkar collaborated with writers Amit Joshi and Aradhana Sah to develop the script.
During this period, Bhandarkar was juggling multiple ideas, including an action film titled *Inspector Ghalib* and a darker project. However, the action genre intrigued him, as he hadn’t ventured into it since *Aan: Men At Work* (2004). Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic halted production, and the industry faced significant disruptions.
As the industry gradually resumed operations, Bhandarkar shifted focus to another project titled *India Lockdown*. Written by the same team as *Babli Bouncer*, the film featured a stellar cast, including Prateik Babbar, Sai Tamhankar, Shweta Basu Prasad, Prakash Belwadi, and Aahana Kumra. Shot on a tight budget in real locations across Mumbai and Pune, the film was completed in just 25-26 days.
After wrapping up *India Lockdown*, Bhandarkar contemplated his next move. It was during this time that Amrita Pandey of Junglee Pictures approached him, leading to the revival of *Babli Bouncer*.
The film is available in multiple audio formats, including Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, catering to a diverse audience.
