**Storyline:**
Babe, an orphaned piglet, is chosen for a “guess the weight” contest at a county fair. The winning farmer, Arthur Hoggett, takes him home and lets him stay in the barn with a Border Collie named Fly, her mate Rex, and their puppies. A duck named Ferdinand, who crows like a rooster every morning to avoid being eaten, convinces Babe to help destroy the alarm clock that threatens his plan. Although they succeed, they accidentally wake Duchess, the Hoggetts’ cat, and chaos ensues, resulting in a wrecked living room. At the barn meeting, Rex sternly warns Babe to stay away from Ferdinand and the house. Later, when Fly’s puppies are sold, Babe asks if he can call Fly his mother.
During Christmas, the Hoggetts’ relatives visit, and Babe is nearly chosen for Christmas dinner. However, Ferdinand’s girlfriend Rosanna is picked instead after Hoggett comments that Babe might win a prize for ham at the next county fair. Ferdinand is heartbroken when Rosanna is cooked for Christmas dinner and flees the farm. Meanwhile, Babe proves his worth by alerting Hoggett to sheep rustlers stealing from the fields.
The next day, Hoggett notices Babe organizing the hens by color and is impressed. He takes Babe to the fields to try herding sheep. Encouraged by an elder ewe named Maa, the sheep cooperate, but Rex sees Babe’s actions as an insult to sheepdogs. He confronts Fly, leading to a vicious fight. Rex injures Fly’s leg and accidentally bites Hoggett’s hand when he intervenes. As a result, Rex is chained, muzzled, and sedated, leaving the sheep herding duties to Babe.
