Description: “Ayyappanum Koshiyum” is a 2020 Malayalam film that delves into a gripping narrative. The story revolves around Koshy Kurien, a former Havildar, who travels to Ooty with his driver, Kumaran. Koshy, heavily intoxicated, is in the car’s backseat with a stash of alcohol. Unknowingly, they take the Attappadi route, a region where alcohol is strictly prohibited. During a routine traffic check involving police, forest, and excise officials, the alcohol is discovered. The excise officials mishandle Koshy, provoking him to retaliate by assaulting an officer, Faisal. Ayyapan Nair, another officer, intervenes to restrain Koshy.
Koshy is taken to the police station, where the officers are shocked to find contacts of prominent political and media figures in his phone. Koshy reveals his identity as the son of Kurian John, a wealthy and influential ex-army officer from Kattappana. Despite his background, Ayyapan Nair refuses to let Koshy go home for Christmas, citing non-bailable charges. Later, Koshy feigns an alcohol withdrawal episode and tricks Nair into giving him some confiscated alcohol, secretly recording the act.
After serving 12 days in jail, Koshy is released on bail but uses the recorded footage to suspend Ayyapan Nair and a constable, Jessy, for violating prohibition laws. Ayyapan is arrested, and his police medals are revoked, intensifying the conflict between the two men. The film explores themes of power, law, and personal clashes in a dramatic and engaging manner.
