A satellite detects the heat signature, leading billionaire Charles Weyland to assemble a team of experts, including archaeologists, linguists, mercenaries, and mountaineer Lex Woods, to investigate. Upon arriving at an abandoned whaling station, they uncover a tunnel leading to the pyramid, where they encounter evidence of an ancient civilization and a sacrificial chamber filled with human skeletons.
Released on August 12, 2004, the film received mostly negative reviews but grossed $177.4 million worldwide against a budget of $60–70 million. A direct sequel, *Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem*, was released in 2007.
