Description: Ava (2020) follows the story of Ava Faulkner, portrayed by Jessica Chastain, a former soldier and recovering addict who now works as an assassin. While on a mission in France, she interrogates her target, an English businessman, about the reasons behind his death sentence. Unaware that her conversation is being monitored, Ava later travels to Boston to reconnect with her estranged sister Judy and her ailing mother, whom she hasn’t seen in eight years.
Her handler, Duke, assigns her a new mission in Saudi Arabia to eliminate a German general. Ava successfully poisons the general to make his death appear natural, but his guards interrupt her, leading to a violent confrontation. Despite the chaos, Ava escapes and returns to Barneville-Carteret, where Duke apologizes for the mission’s complications, claiming it was due to faulty intelligence. He allows her some time off, and Ava heads back to Boston, where she reunites with her ex-fiancé Michael, who is now in a relationship with her sister Judy.
Meanwhile, in British Columbia, Duke meets with his superior, Simon, whose daughter Camille was the one eavesdropping on Ava’s previous mission. Simon views Ava as a liability due to her tendency to question her targets and orders her elimination. After surviving an assassination attempt, Ava confronts Duke, who dismisses the incident. Later, during a tense dinner with Judy and Michael, Ava’s strained relationships come to light. The next day, Judy informs Ava that Michael has gone missing. Realizing he has relapsed into gambling, Ava rescues him from a dangerous gambling den run by a woman named Toni, to whom Michael owes money.
