Description: In 1995, Lyla Novacek, a cellist studying at the Juilliard School, lives under her father’s strict control. Louis Connelly, the lead singer of an Irish rock band, meets Lyla, and they share a brief connection. However, they lose contact afterward. Lyla later discovers she is pregnant, but after a heated argument with her father about the baby, she is hit by a car and gives birth prematurely. While she remains unconscious, her father secretly places the baby boy for adoption, falsely telling Lyla that her son died.
Eleven years later, the child, now named Evan Taylor, lives in an orphanage. He possesses extraordinary musical talent, displaying savant-like abilities and perfect pitch, which often makes him a target for bullies. Convinced his parents will find him, Evan runs away to New York City, believing the music around him will lead him to his family. In the city, he encounters a boy named Arthur, who introduces him to “Wizard” Wallace, a manipulative musician who trains homeless and runaway children to become street performers. Evan impresses Wizard with his skills, earning a prized guitar and a spot in Washington Square Park under the stage name “August Rush.”
As Evan rises in the music scene, Wizard, aware of the search posters for Evan, destroys them to keep the boy for his own benefit. Meanwhile, Louis now works as a talent agent in San Francisco, while Lyla teaches music in Chicago, both unaware of their son’s journey to reconnect with them.
