In one instance, two high school boys sexually assaulted their classmate, Audrie Pott, while she was unconscious. They defaced her body with crude messages using a green marker and shared photos of the incident on social media. During interviews, the boys appeared detached and confused, unaware of the gravity of their actions. Their lack of remorse and understanding is unsettling, shedding light on a troubling societal mindset.
The film explores four separate but eerily similar rape cases, emphasizing that such incidents are not isolated or random but deeply rooted in systemic problems. Audrie Pott, unable to recall the assault, faced relentless harassment and rumors about the incident. She pleaded with one of the boys, whom she considered a friend, to explain what happened, writing, “You have no idea what it’s like to be a girl.” The overwhelming bullying led Audrie to take her own life just eight days after the assault.
Another victim, Delaney Henderson, shares a similar experience and expresses regret for not reaching out to Audrie when she first learned about her story. Delaney believes connecting with Audrie might have provided her with some comfort, knowing she wasn’t alone.
The documentary serves as a stark reminder of the widespread issues surrounding sexual assault and the devastating consequences for victims.
