Description: The 2022 movie “Athena” is set during a single day and night in a Parisian council estate, exploring the aftermath of a child’s death caused by the police. The story focuses on the boy’s two adult brothers, who find themselves on opposite sides of a growing ideological divide. Abdel, the elder brother, is a war hero, but Karim, the younger brother, sees him as a traitor. Karim becomes a symbol of the protests sweeping France in response to the tragedy, expressing his anger and contempt for authority in a tense confrontation.
The film opens with a powerful sequence where Karim silently watches Abdel address the media, promising justice for their brother’s death. However, Karim remains unconvinced. In a moment of defiance, he lights a Molotov cocktail and throws it, igniting chaos and setting the stage for the unfolding anarchy.
As protesters storm a police station, the camera follows Karim through the turmoil. He seizes weapons from the police, determined to use them against their oppressors. The director masterfully captures the chaos while weaving in critical character moments and plot developments, creating a compelling narrative of rebellion and conflict.
