Description: Ramana Teja’s debut film, *Aswathama*, is an ambitious project that tells the story of a frustrated common man determined to hunt down a psychopath while also delving into the depravity of the antagonist. Although the film doesn’t spend as much time exploring the antagonist’s character as it does the protagonist’s, it manages to deliver a compelling narrative despite its flaws. The raw execution will resonate with fans of the genre, making it a noteworthy effort.
The plot revolves around Gana (Naga Shaurya), who has always been protective of his sister Priya (Sargun Kaur Luthra). When Priya becomes engaged to Ravi (Prince Cecil), Gana returns to India, only to discover her attempting to take her own life. Shocked yet supportive, Gana learns that Priya is pregnant, though she has no idea how it happened. Determined to uncover the truth, Gana embarks on a relentless pursuit to find answers for his sister. Along the way, the story introduces four fishermen, an old man, a psychopath, and his accomplice—each contributing to the web of mystery surrounding the girls who share similar fates as Priya.
Ramana Teja skillfully connects the narrative threads across the scenic landscapes of Vizag and its gritty by-lanes in Jalaripeta. However, the film’s pacing suffers in the first half, with unnecessary detours that delay the story’s progression. For instance, the subplot involving Gana’s girlfriend Neha (Mehreen Pirzada) feels underdeveloped and serves little purpose beyond providing occasional emotional support or frustration for the protagonist.
Despite these shortcomings, *Aswathama* remains a commendable attempt at weaving a tale of redemption, justice, and familial bonds.
