Description: Director Jesse Atlas’s film *Assassin* is notable primarily for featuring Bruce Willis in his final on-screen role. Sadly, Willis’s later career was impacted by aphasia, which hindered his ability to deliver compelling performances. Despite this, he continued to star in low-budget action films, which were often disappointing, even when compared to his iconic roles like *Die Hard*.
In *Assassin*, Willis takes on a minor supporting role in a story centered on Andy Allo’s character, Mali. Mali’s mission is to retrieve groundbreaking military technology from a criminal named Adrian, who is responsible for the disappearance of her partner, Sebastian. To achieve her goal, Mali uses the same advanced technology to take over someone else’s body, infiltrate Adrian’s circle, locate the missing tech, and ultimately eliminate him.
However, the film struggles to establish clear rules for its sci-fi premise. It remains unexplained why certain individuals can be controlled by military personnel while others cannot. If the technology allows for brain manipulation to override consciousness, why can’t the users simply find the device themselves? Additionally, Mali appears to be the only character who requires an ice bath to initiate the body-switching process. Ultimately, *Assassin* becomes a perplexing and illogical film that fails to adhere to its own sci-fi framework.
