Description: In 1905, Thomas Richardson journeys to a secluded Welsh island to save his sister, Jennifer, who has been kidnapped and held for ransom by a mysterious cult. Disguising himself as a convert, Thomas meets the cult’s leader, Malcolm Howe, who established the group alongside two former convicts, Frank and Quinn. They claim the island’s barren land was transformed into fertile ground through blood sacrifices. Thomas learns from Frank’s son, Jeremy, and Quinn’s daughter, Ffion, that Jennifer was kidnapped for ransom because the cult lacks the means to sustain the required animal sacrifices.
During an assassination attempt on Malcolm, Thomas steps in and suffers injuries. That same night, Malcolm parades Jennifer through the village, threatening her execution unless her accomplice confesses. Thomas escapes an elderly woman chasing him and finds a cave filled with markings, hinting at a deity’s presence. Malcolm visits a barn where the old woman, revealed to be the island’s deity, is trapped in tree roots. He scolds her for appearing to Thomas before feeding her his blood, reviving the surrounding vegetation.
Thomas confides in Malcolm’s daughter, Andrea, about his past as a Christian missionary who lost his faith after persecution in Peking during the Boxer Rebellion. Andrea helps him hide in a shack. Meanwhile, Ffion confesses her pregnancy to Jeremy, and they plan to escape together. However, Quinn kills Ffion during a forced abortion. In retaliation, Jeremy stabs Quinn but is captured and framed for Ffion’s murder. Quinn uses a “purification” ritual to execute Jeremy and challenges Malcolm to prove his authority by killing Thomas. Frank, devastated by his son’s death, attacks Quinn, enabling Thomas to flee.
