Description: Antardhaan is a Bengali thriller drama film directed by Tapan Sinha and produced by Naba Kumar Chandra. It is based on the true story of a woman’s disappearance. Released in 1992, this film marked the debut of Bengali actor Sabyasachi Chakraborty.
The story follows Professor Sushobhan Mukherjee and his wife, who return home from visiting his ill brother only to discover that their daughter, Ina, has gone missing. Sushobhan files a police report, and the investigation reveals that Ina had left with Barun Lahiri, an imposter involved with a criminal gang. Barun manipulates Ina and forces her to entertain his clients. Despite corruption in the police force, Sushobhan takes matters into his own hands and travels to Orissa to search for his daughter. Eventually, the police rescue Ina from Barun’s hideout.
Director Arindam Chatterjee’s upcoming film, also titled *Antardhaan*, has generated excitement with its posters and trailers. The multi-genre thriller was filmed in Himachal Pradesh in February 2019 and features a star-studded cast, including Parambrata Chattopadhyay, Tnusree Chakraborty, Mohar Choudhury, Mamata Shankar, Avtaar Sahni, and Rajatava Dutta.
The plot centers on a family—Anirban (Parambrata), Tonusree (Tnusree), and their daughter Zinia (Mohar Choudhury)—who move to the small town of Kasauli in Himachal Pradesh. Soon, they begin encountering strange occurrences in their neighborhood, leading to a shocking climax where their daughter disappears during an excursion.
Arindam Chatterjee explains that the film highlights a pressing social issue: the consequences of giving children too much freedom in today’s digitally driven world. Parents often overlook their children’s activities on phones and social media, unaware of the dangers they might face. When things go wrong, it is the parents who ultimately bear the burden.
