Description: An American in Paris, released in 1951, tells the story of Jerry Mulligan, an American World War II veteran who settles in Paris to pursue his dream of becoming an artist. Jerry’s friend and neighbor, Adam Cook, is a struggling concert pianist and a close associate of French singer Henri Baurel. One day, Henri shares with Adam details about his girlfriend, Lise Bouvier. Meanwhile, Jerry spends his time trying to sell his artwork in the vibrant Montmartre district.
During one of his outings, Jerry catches the attention of Milo Roberts, a wealthy heiress who admires his paintings. She purchases two of his works and invites him to her apartment to complete the payment. Jerry later attends a dinner party hosted by Milo, where he feels uncomfortable upon discovering he is the only guest. Despite this, Milo reassures Jerry that her intentions are solely to support his artistic career.
At a bar, Milo offers to sponsor an art exhibition for Jerry. It is here that Jerry notices a striking young woman, unaware that she is Lise, the very person Henri loves. Jerry approaches her, pretending to know her, but Lise, unimpressed, provides him with a fake phone number. Jerry eventually learns the correct number and attempts to contact her, but she declines his advances.
Meanwhile, Milo arranges a meeting with a collector interested in Jerry’s work. Before the meeting, Jerry visits Lise at her workplace, a parfumerie, and persuades her to join him for a late dinner. The two share a romantic evening along the Seine River, singing and dancing together. However, Lise must leave abruptly to meet Henri after his performance. Henri, planning a tour in America, takes the opportunity to propose to Lise, adding a new layer of complexity to the unfolding story.
