Description: “American Underdog” tells the inspiring true story of Kurt Warner, who rose from a supermarket stock clerk to a two-time NFL MVP, Super Bowl champion, and Hall of Fame quarterback. The film begins with a young Kurt watching Super Bowl XIX, where he vows to become a Super Bowl MVP quarterback. Years later, while playing at the University of Northern Iowa under coach Terry Allen, Kurt faces the threat of being benched for breaking team rules, which could shatter his NFL aspirations. Despite setbacks, he remains the starter, improving his performance and gaining a chance to enter the NFL draft.
Along the way, Kurt meets Brenda, a single mother and nursing student raising two children. Despite her initial doubts about their relationship, Kurt’s persistence wins her over. He bonds deeply with her children and commits to supporting her family. However, Kurt’s journey is far from easy. After going undrafted, he questions his faith and dreams. He gets a tryout with the Green Bay Packers, but it ends in failure, leaving him homeless. Taking refuge in Brenda’s basement, he works nights stocking shelves at a grocery store, learning that true success is defined not by achievements on the field but by resilience in the face of adversity.
