Description: Amélie Poulain, born in June 1974, is raised by eccentric parents who homeschool her due to their mistaken belief that she has a heart condition. To combat her loneliness, Amélie cultivates a vivid imagination and a playful demeanor. At the age of six, her mother, Amandine, tragically dies when a suicidal Canadian tourist leaps from Notre-Dame de Paris and lands on her. This event causes her father, Raphaël, to retreat further from society. When Amélie turns 18, she leaves home and begins working as a waitress at Café des 2 Moulins in Montmartre, a place filled with quirky characters. Despite being single, she finds joy in simple pleasures, such as dipping her hand into grain sacks and cracking crème brûlée with a spoon.

On August 31, 1997, Amélie is startled by the news of Princess Diana’s death and accidentally drops a plastic perfume stopper. This causes a wall tile to dislodge, revealing an old metal box containing childhood memorabilia hidden by a former resident of her apartment. Intrigued, Amélie decides to find the boy, now a man, and return the box to him. She makes a promise to herself: if this act brings him happiness, she will dedicate her life to helping others.

After consulting the apartment concierge and some long-time tenants, Amélie encounters her reclusive neighbor, Raymond Dufayel, an artist with brittle bone disease who annually repaints Renoir’s “Luncheon of the Boating Party.” Raymond recalls the boy’s name as Bretodeau. Amélie soon locates Dominique Bretodeau and secretly returns the box to him. Overwhelmed with emotion, Bretodeau decides to reconnect with his estranged daughter and meet his grandson for the first time. Inspired by this success, Amélie joyfully begins her new mission of spreading happiness.
