Directed by Michael Bay and inspired by the 2005 Danish film of the same name, “Ambulance” delivers gripping action and character-driven drama.
Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II deliver compelling performances as the brothers, with their dynamic adding depth to the story. While Michael Bay’s signature style of intense chases and rapid pacing keeps the tension high, his tendency for dramatic camera movements and editing can sometimes detract from the narrative. Despite this, the emotional moments between the characters resonate more than the film’s large-scale action sequences.
“Ambulance” presents a thrilling premise and strong performances but falls short of its potential due to its director’s inability to fully embrace subtlety. Nonetheless, it remains a high-octane cinematic experience.
