**Storyline:**
Two years after the events of the first film, Dave (Jason Lee) gets injured when a cardboard cutout of Alvin (Justin Long) causes him to fall off the stage during a charity concert in France. Dave asks his aunt, Jackie (Kathryn Joosten), to take care of the Chipmunks—Alvin, Simon (Matthew Gray Gubler), and Theodore (Jesse McCartney). Plans are made for them to attend West Eastman High School. However, when Jackie also has an accident, the Chipmunks are left in the care of her grandson, Toby (Zachary Levi).
Meanwhile, former CEO Ian Hawke (David Cross), now broke and living in the basement of JETT Records, discovers three singing female chipmunks—Brittany, Jeanette, and Eleanor, also known as The Chipettes (voiced by Amy Poehler, Anna Faris, and Christina Applegate). Ian sees them as an opportunity to revive his career and hires them.
At school, the Chipmunks face bullying from other students whose girlfriends are attracted to them. The bullies chase the Chipmunks, humiliating Simon and Theodore. After the Chipmunks retaliate, they are called to the principal’s office, where they meet Dr. Rubin (Wendie Malick), a fan who enlists their help to raise funds for the school’s music program by participating in a contest.
Ian, shocked to see the Chipmunks in the news, sends the Chipettes to the same school. When the two groups meet, they are instantly smitten, but Brittany warns the girls that Ian considers the Chipmunks untrustworthy. As the Chipmunks struggle with their newfound crushes during rehearsals, Ian introduces the Chipettes as his new stars, sparking a rivalry. Ian convinces Dr. Rubin to let the Chipettes compete in the Battle of the Bands, leading to a showdown between the two groups to represent the school.
