Description: Firefighter Kim Ja-hong, portrayed by Cha Tae-hyun, dies while on duty and is guided to the afterlife by three guardians: Hae Won-maek (Ju Ji-hoon), Lee Deok-choon (Kim Hyang-gi), and their leader Gang-rim (Ha Jung-woo). These guardians must accompany him through seven trials over 49 days. Success in these trials will allow Ja-hong to be reincarnated, while also helping his guardians earn credits toward their own reincarnation.
In the first trial, known as the Hell of Murder, Ja-hong faces charges for the indirect death of his colleague, who was trapped during a fire. Just as he is about to be sentenced, it is revealed that his colleague had urged him to save civilians first. After rescuing eight people, Ja-hong tried to go back for his colleague but was stopped when the building collapsed. The judge subsequently acquits him.
The second trial, the Hell of Indolence, focuses on Ja-hong’s dedication and selflessness. However, Ja-hong admits he only worked for money, risking punishment. Gang-rim intervenes, explaining that Ja-hong’s earnings supported his brother and sick mother, leading to his acquittal.
On the journey to the Hell of Deceit, the party is attacked by ghouls as the environment of Hell begins to shift, signaling that a deceased family member of Ja-hong has become a vengeful spirit. Gang-rim leaves to investigate while the others continue.
In the Hell of Deceit, Ja-hong is accused of writing fake letters to the families of the deceased, including Ji-yeon, the daughter of his fallen colleague. Gang-rim, using supernatural means, teams up with Deok-choon from the living world to defend Ja-hong. They argue that the letters, including those written to Ja-hong’s mother, were intended to provide comfort and help her focus on her health. Similarly, the letters to Ji-yeon helped her cope with her father’s death. The charges are dismissed.
