Description: In the year 2563, three centuries after Earth was ravaged by a devastating conflict known as “The Fall,” Dr. Dyson Ido, a scientist, discovers a female cyborg with a preserved human brain while scavenging in the vast scrapyard of Iron City. He attaches a new cyborg body to the brain and names her “Alita” after his late daughter. Awakening with no memory of her past, Alita befriends Hugo, a young man aspiring to reach the prosperous sky city of Zalem. She also encounters Dr. Chiren, Ido’s estranged ex-wife. Hugo introduces Alita to Motorball, a high-speed cyborg racing sport, while secretly robbing cyborgs for Vector, the owner of the Motorball tournament and the de facto ruler of Iron City.
One night, Alita and Ido are ambushed by a gang of cyborg killers led by Grewishka. Alita instinctively uses “Panzer-Kunst,” a forgotten combat technique, to fight and injure Grewishka, forcing him to retreat. Ido reveals he is a Hunter-Warrior, a bounty hunter employed by the Factory, Iron City’s governing body. Grewishka seeks help from Dr. Chiren, who works for Vector. Despite Ido’s discouragement, Alita believes fighting will help her uncover her past. She discovers an advanced cyborg body in a crashed spaceship, which Ido identifies as belonging to a Berserker, a deadly soldier of the United Republics of Mars (URM).
Frustrated, Alita registers as a Hunter-Warrior. At the Kansas Bar, she and Hugo fail to recruit others to help defeat Grewishka. A confrontation with Zapan, a cyborg bully, leads to a chaotic brawl, stopped only by Ido’s intervention. Suddenly, an upgraded Grewishka appears, challenging Alita and revealing he was sent by Nova, Zalem’s technocrat overlord, to destroy her.
