Alok has a passion for music and decides to take lessons from Pandit Jamuna Prasad. Instead of dedicating himself to a career in law, he often finds himself spending time in the slums with Sarju Bai Banaraswali, a former courtesan. Despite warnings from Triloki, Alok continues to visit Sarju Bai.
When Mr. Gupta arrives to discuss demolishing the slum area, Triloki agrees without hesitation, leaving Sarju Bai and the other residents homeless.
