Description: “Akhanda” is a 2021 Indian Telugu-language action drama film written and directed by Boyapati Srinu. Produced by Dwaraka Creations, the movie features Nandamuri Balakrishna in a dual role, alongside Pragya Jaiswal, Jagapathi Babu, and Srikanth. The film’s soundtrack and score were composed by S. Thaman. Released on December 2, 2021, it received mixed reviews, with praise for Balakrishna’s portrayal of an Aghora but criticism for its storyline. Despite this, the film achieved commercial success, grossing over ₹200 crore at the box office and becoming the second highest-grossing Telugu film of the year.
The story revolves around Gajendra, a wanted bandit pursued by the police who fail to capture him despite their efforts. During a clash between Gajendra’s men and the police, he is wounded by his own ammunition and thrown into the water. He finds refuge in a temple under a guru’s guidance but later murders the guru and assumes the role of the temple priest. Over time, Gajendra rises to power as a gang lord, involved in large-scale organized crime and illegal mining in the state.
Parallelly, a wealthy and influential family gives birth to twin boys. One child is born alive, while the other is presumed stillborn. An Aghora appears and reveals to the father that the stillborn child holds a destiny of destroying evil, akin to Lord Shiva. The father entrusts the child to the Aghora, who places the infant in the bag of another meditating Aghora. The child comes to life after being touched by holy water from the temple’s gopuram and is raised under the protection of the Aghoras, growing up devoted to Lord Shiva. The other twin, Murali Krishna, is raised by the family.
The narrative explores the contrasting paths of the two brothers and their eventual convergence in a tale of action, destiny, and spiritual undertones.
