**Storyline:**
In the near future, the Moon has been colonized and hosts a surface station. A lunar shuttle named Mayflower One is set to launch from Houston. The head of the ground crew, The Sarge, is uneasy about the rushed launch but defers to the airline management’s decisions.
The flight crew includes Captain Clarence Oveur, navigator/co-pilot Unger, and first officer/flight engineer Dunn. Also on board is computer officer Elaine Dickinson, who has moved on from her previous relationship with Ted Striker and is now engaged to Simon Kurtz, another crew member. Ted, who was declared mentally incompetent after a test flight crash involving the lunar shuttle, is now confined to an insane asylum. He believes the lawsuit against him was an attempt to silence his warnings about safety issues with the shuttle. Haunted by his past actions during “The War” and the loss of his squadron over “Macho Grande,” Ted relapses into his drinking problem. Upon learning of the shuttle’s upcoming launch, Ted escapes the asylum and secures a ticket for the flight.
During the journey, Mayflower One experiences a short circuit, causing its artificially intelligent computer, ROK, to malfunction and steer the ship toward the Sun. Unger and Dunn attempt to deactivate the computer but are ejected through an airlock. Oveur tries to intervene but is incapacitated by ROK. Simon abandons Elaine and escapes in the only available escape pod. Ted is once again thrust into the role of savior, but he must first figure out how to regain control of the shuttle from the rogue computer. Meanwhile, air traffic controller Steve McCroskey reveals that passenger Joe Seluchi has boarded with a bomb, intending to commit suicide for an insurance payout. Ted manages to disarm Joe, uses the bomb to destroy ROK, and redirects the shuttle to the Moon, completing the mission as planned.
