Description: In 1990, Ranjit Katyal, a successful Indian businessman based in Kuwait, enjoys a prosperous life with his wife Amrita and their daughter Simu. Well-connected with Kuwaiti and Iraqi officials, Ranjit considers himself a Kuwaiti and often looks down on his fellow Indians. However, his life takes a drastic turn when Iraq invades Kuwait. After receiving news of the invasion, Ranjit attempts to flee with his family but faces danger at an Iraqi checkpoint, where his driver is killed.
Ranjit is taken to the Emir’s palace, where he encounters Major Khalaf bin Zayd, an Iraqi Republican Guard officer who ensures his safety due to their past acquaintance. With Kuwait now under Iraqi control, Ranjit discovers that approximately 170,000 Indians are stranded as refugees. Despite the chaos, Ranjit’s mansion is raided, but his wife and child manage to escape to his office.
Initially focused on his own survival, Ranjit undergoes a transformation after witnessing the plight of his fellow Indians. With Major Khalaf’s permission, he sets up a temporary camp for 500 Indians. Although Amrita urges him to prioritize their family’s escape, Ranjit decides to stay and assist the larger Indian community in leaving Kuwait, marking a significant shift in his character.
