Description: Jake and Kyra live with their adoptive daughter Mika and Yang, a secondhand robotic child purchased from Brothers & Sisters Incorporated. When Yang suddenly stops functioning, Jake embarks on a mission to fix him. The company suggests replacing Yang, which would mean his body will decompose. Reluctant to upset Mika, Jake becomes determined to save Yang. In a flashback, Yang reassures Mika that she is an integral part of the family despite being adopted.
Jake takes Yang to an affordable repairman named Russ, who uncovers what he believes to be a hidden camera inside Yang. Jake brings the device to a museum specialist, Cleo, who identifies it as Yang’s memory bank. Back home, Jake reviews Yang’s memories, which include daily life snippets and moments with a woman named Ada. The next day, Jake returns to Cleo with Yang. In another flashback, Yang expresses sadness over his inability to truly live.
Jake tracks down Ada, who confirms Yang had a relationship with her. Jake and Kyra ultimately decide to let Yang decompose, donating his memories to the museum. In a final flashback, Yang and Kyra discuss the improbability of an afterlife.
Later, Jake speaks to Yang’s former owner, Nancy, who reveals Yang wasn’t a new product. Jake discovers a setting on the memory bank that unlocks more of Yang’s memories, revealing he had lived an entire life in the 1900s and raised a son. That night, Mika tells Jake she isn’t ready to say goodbye to Yang, and Jake agrees. As Mika begins to sing, the story concludes.
