These unrelated themes fail to come together cohesively, leaving viewers confused about the director’s intent. The plot lacks depth and clarity, resembling a poorly crafted fruit salad with an awkward mix of ingredients that just don’t work.
Although the trailer appeared captivating, showcasing a church setting from 1972 with solar panels in the background, the film itself fails to deliver. Despite featuring a talented actress with a thriving Bollywood career, the movie misses the mark. Technical flaws, such as poor framing and missing headroom in later scenes, detract from the viewing experience. While some aspects of the film were visually acceptable, these issues suggest a lack of attention to detail. It’s possible that Chandran Rutnam, the filmmaker, might be better suited to scouting locations and producing rather than directing. Overall, “According to Matthew” falls short of its potential to be a standout Sri Lankan film.
