Description: Will Freeman lives a carefree life with no responsibilities or commitments, supported by the royalties from his father’s successful Christmas song. To meet single mothers, he joins the Single Parents Alone Together (SPAT) group, pretending to be the father of a fictional child. While pursuing Suzie, whom he is attracted to, he unexpectedly meets Marcus, the socially awkward son of one of Suzie’s friends, during a planned playdate. When Will and Suzie take Marcus home, they discover that Marcus’ mother, Fiona, who suffers from depression, has attempted suicide and rush her to the hospital.
Marcus later learns that Will’s imaginary son doesn’t exist and blackmails him into dating Fiona to prevent her from falling into depression again. Although Will shows no romantic interest in Fiona, he forms a bond with Marcus and gradually matures as a person. He helps Marcus gain confidence, but the plan backfires when Marcus accidentally reveals Will’s deception. Fiona confronts Will, who explains that he only wanted to help Marcus, who is often bullied at school. Despite promising to cut ties, Fiona realizes that Will’s involvement has been beneficial for both her and Marcus.
Will joins Marcus and Fiona for Christmas, gifting Marcus a portable CD player and a Mystikal album. During a conversation with Suzie, who is aware of Will’s earlier lies, Marcus defends Will and stands up to Fiona’s confrontational behavior. Will diffuses the situation by recalling an incident where Marcus accidentally killed a duck. Marcus invites Will to Christmas dinner, and Will genuinely enjoys spending time with Marcus and his family.
