Description: Byomkesh falls critically ill and is cared for by his wife, Satyabati, and close friend, Ajit. Following medical advice, he travels to Dooars with them to recover. The change in climate improves his health, bringing relief to his companions. However, their peaceful retreat takes an unexpected turn when a mystery unfolds.
In Dooars, Byomkesh encounters members of the local Bengali community, including Dr. Ashwini Ghatak, Professor Adinath Shome, Mahidhar Chaudhury, photographer Nakuleshwar, police officer Purander Pandey, deputy magistrate Umanath Ghosh, and banker Amaresh Raha. During a gathering at Mahidhar’s home, his daughter Rajani entertains the guests with her singing. The event is briefly disrupted by the arrival of Falguni Pal, a talented artist known for quickly sketching portraits.
Mahidhar mentions a recent robbery at his house, where the thief ignored valuables and only stole a group photograph of him with his neighbors. Strangely, all others who had a copy of the photograph also misplaced or lost it. Though seemingly trivial, the incident captures Byomkesh’s attention.
The situation escalates when another robbery is attempted at Umanath Ghosh’s residence, and Falguni Pal is brutally murdered. The events deepen the mystery, prompting Byomkesh to investigate further.
