Description: The 2013 film *A Teacher* follows the story of Diana Watts (Lindsay Burdge), a high school English teacher in suburban Texas. The movie begins with Diana at a bar with her roommate, Sophia (Jennifer Prediger), who notices Diana texting someone named Eric. When Sophia playfully asks about him, Diana casually responds, “At school,” with a sly smile. Later, Diana waits in her car, and Eric Tull (Will Brittain), one of her students, arrives. They engage in a secret encounter before parting ways.
In the classroom, Diana and Eric attempt to maintain a normal teacher-student relationship, though they occasionally exchange glances and find moments to be alone. Despite Diana’s occasional nervousness about being discovered, she remains deeply infatuated with Eric and continues their illicit affair.
As the story progresses, Diana’s personal life becomes more complicated. She declines an invitation from colleagues to join them for drinks, citing her brother’s visit as an excuse. Her brother, Hunter (Jonny Mars), leaves her a voicemail about their mother’s declining health, but Diana quickly becomes overwhelmed and leaves when he tries to discuss it with her.
Later, Diana confides in Eric during a private moment, expressing that she feels happier than she has in a long time. At home, Sophia excitedly shares her plans to introduce Diana to two single men, Rich (Cody Haltom) and Dan (Matthew Genitempo), at a Thanksgiving party. However, Diana seems uninterested and even sends a risqué photo to Eric while Sophia talks. At the party, Diana finds Rich and Dan unappealing and leaves early with an excuse.
The film explores the complexities and consequences of Diana’s secret relationship, revealing the emotional turmoil it brings to both her professional and personal life.
