Description: Simin is determined to leave Iran with her husband, Nader, and their daughter, Termeh, after 14 years of marriage. Nader, however, is reluctant to leave as he is worried about his elderly father, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease. Simin eventually files for divorce, but the court deems their issues insufficient to grant it.
After moving back to her parents’ home, Simin leaves Termeh with Nader. To care for his father while he’s at work, Nader hires Razieh, a devout woman from a poor neighborhood in Tehran. Razieh brings her young daughter, Somayeh, along with her. The job becomes overwhelming for Razieh, who is four months pregnant and struggles with the physical and emotional demands of caring for Nader’s father. One day, while trying to clean up a spilled trash bag, Razieh discovers that Nader’s father has wandered off. She rushes to find him.
Later, Nader and Termeh return home to find Nader’s father unconscious and tied to his bed, with Razieh and Somayeh missing. When Razieh returns, Nader accuses her of neglecting his father and stealing money, not knowing that Simin had used the funds to pay for movers. He forces Razieh out, causing her to fall on the stairs. Later, Nader and Simin learn that Razieh has been hospitalized due to a miscarriage.
If Nader is found to have known about Razieh’s pregnancy and caused the miscarriage, he could face murder charges. The situation escalates in court as Nader accuses Razieh of negligence, while her husband, Hodjat, confronts him aggressively. The tension spills over when Hodjat confronts Termeh’s teacher, who supports Nader’s side of the story.
