The story is inspired by true events and follows 1st Sergeant Charles Monroe King, who, while deployed in Iraq, writes a journal filled with love and advice for his infant son. His fiancée, Dana Canedy, later shares this journal with their son, reflecting on their profound and unexpected romantic relationship.
The film was released by Sony Pictures Releasing under the Columbia Pictures banner on December 25, 2021. Originally scheduled for a limited theatrical release on December 10, 2021, and a wider release on December 22, the plan was adjusted to a full theatrical release on Christmas Day. The movie premiered at the AMC Lincoln Square Theatre on December 9, 2021, and became available for video-on-demand on January 11, 2022. Its Blu-ray and DVD release followed on March 8, 2022.
The cast and crew began production in December 2020, with additional actors joining the project in early 2021. “A Journal for Jordan” received mixed reviews from critics following its release.
