Description: In 1947, John Nash arrives at Princeton University as a co-recipient of the Carnegie Scholarship for mathematics, alongside Martin Hansen. He befriends fellow graduate students Sol, Ainsley, and Bender, and his roommate, Charles Herman, a literature student. Determined to create an original idea, Nash is inspired during a discussion about approaching a group of women at a bar. While Hansen cites Adam Smith’s philosophy of “every man for himself,” Nash argues for a cooperative strategy, leading him to develop a groundbreaking concept of governing dynamics. He publishes his theory, earning him a position at MIT, where he selects Sol and Bender to join him.
In 1953, Nash is invited to the Pentagon to decrypt enemy communications, a task he accomplishes mentally. Bored with his teaching duties at MIT, he is recruited by William Parcher of the U.S. Department of Defense for a classified mission: to uncover hidden patterns in media to prevent a Soviet plot. Nash becomes increasingly obsessed with the assignment, delivering findings to a secret mailbox and believing he is being followed.
During this time, Nash meets Alicia Larde, a student who asks him to dinner, and they fall in love. On a visit to Princeton, Nash reunites with Charles and his niece, Marcee. Encouraged by Charles, he proposes to Alicia, and they marry. As Nash fears for his life after a shootout involving Parcher and Soviet agents, he learns Alicia is pregnant. Despite the danger, Parcher pressures him to continue his mission. While lecturing at Harvard, Nash tries to escape what he believes are Soviet agents, led by psychiatrist Dr. Rosen, but is subdued and admitted to a psychiatric facility.
