Description: Renowned Indian filmmaker Subhash Ghai, celebrated for his blockbuster Bollywood hits from the 1970s to the 2000s, has ventured into the streaming world with his latest film, “36 Farmhouse.” Produced by ZEE Studios and Ghai’s Mukta Arts, the film reflects his legacy of iconic movies like “Karz,” “Hero,” and “Taal.” Known for directing legendary stars such as Dilip Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan, and Madhuri Dixit, Ghai continues to captivate audiences with his storytelling.
“36 Farmhouse” is a timely narrative inspired by India’s COVID-19 lockdowns. It revolves around a father-son duo of migrant workers who, while returning to their village during the pandemic, are employed at a luxurious farmhouse owned by a wealthy woman. Initially tempted to steal, they soon find themselves entangled in a murder mystery, discovering the dark intentions of the farmhouse’s heirs. Ghai describes the film as a blend of comedy, family drama, and suspense, emphasizing the contrast between stealing out of necessity and greed.
Ghai, who penned the story and composed the music, stepped back from directing to collaborate with Ram Ramesh Sharma, a graduate of Ghai’s Whistling Woods International film school. This decision allowed Ghai to explore a fresh perspective while focusing on his creative producer role. He acknowledges that modern audiences seek entertainment over heavy themes, aiming to deliver a family-friendly experience with “36 Farmhouse.”
Free from the pressures of commercial success, Ghai views this project as a source of joy and fulfillment, continuing his legacy in the evolving landscape of Indian cinema.
