The remote town of Barrow, Alaska, braces for its annual “30 Days of Night,” a natural phenomenon where the sun disappears for an entire month. As the town prepares, a mysterious stranger arrives and sabotages all communication and transportation, cutting Barrow off from the outside world. Sheriff Eben Oleson begins to investigate the situation, only to discover that his estranged wife, Stella, has missed the last flight out and must endure the long polar night alongside him.
That night, a ruthless group of vampires, led by the sinister Marlow, launches a brutal attack on the town, slaughtering most of its residents. Eben, Stella, Eben’s younger brother Jake, and a handful of survivors take refuge in a fortified house with a hidden attic. Meanwhile, Marlow confronts the stranger who aided the vampires, thanking him before abruptly killing him.
As days pass, the survivors face increasing danger. Eighteen days into the ordeal, a blizzard provides temporary cover for the group to venture out for supplies, but they become stranded when the storm ends. Eben devises a plan to lead the vampires away from the group, using an ultraviolet light to severely injure Marlow’s companion, Iris, forcing Marlow to end her life.
Amid the chaos, Beau, the town’s snowplow operator, sacrifices himself in a failed attempt to destroy the vampires. Eventually, Eben is forced to make a heartbreaking decision when one of his own, Carter, begins turning into a vampire after being bitten.
Set against the chilling backdrop of perpetual darkness, *30 Days of Night* is a gripping story of survival, sacrifice, and the lengths people will go to protect those they love.
