Genre: Comedy;Drama
Description: Gwen Cummings, an alcoholic portrayed by Sandra Bullock, lives a life of constant intoxication with her boyfriend, Jasper, played by Dominic West. After causing chaos at her sister Lily’s wedding by arriving late, delivering a drunken speech, and accidentally knocking over the wedding cake, Gwen impulsively steals a limousine. Her reckless attempt to find a cake shop ends in a car crash. Given the choice between jail or 28 days in rehab, she opts for the latter.
At the rehab center, Gwen encounters a diverse group of patients, including Oliver, a cocaine addict; Daniel and Roshanda, alcoholics; Bobbi Jean, an older addict; Gerhardt, whose addiction remains unspecified; and Cornell, the facility’s director and a recovered addict. Despite their struggles, Gwen remains in denial about her alcoholism and resists participating in treatment programs.
During a visit from Jasper, he sneaks her a bottle of pills, and the two relapse into their old habits. Gwen returns to the facility intoxicated, leading Cornell to inform her she’ll be expelled and sent to jail. In a moment of clarity, Gwen confronts her addiction, discarding her smuggled drugs and beginning to take her recovery seriously.
