Description: In 2005, Morton Schmidt, a studious student, and Greg Jenko, a laid-back jock, both miss their prom—Schmidt because the girl he asked rejected him, and Jenko because of failing grades. Years later, in 2012, they reunite at the Police Academy and become friends, later partnering on bicycle patrol. Their big break comes when they arrest Domingo, leader of a motorcycle gang, but they are forced to let him go after failing to read him his Miranda rights.
They are reassigned to a revived 1980s program that involves infiltrating high schools. Captain Dickson tasks them with stopping the spread of a synthetic drug called HFS at Sagan High School. Given new identities and class schedules based on their past academic performances, they accidentally swap roles—Schmidt takes science classes, while Jenko handles arts and humanities. Schmidt learns about HFS from classmate Molly and meets the school’s main dealer, Eric. To maintain their cover, they take the drug, which unexpectedly shifts their social standing: Schmidt’s intelligence makes him popular, while Jenko’s carefree attitude becomes a liability.
Eric takes a liking to Schmidt, who develops feelings for Molly. Meanwhile, Jenko befriends his chemistry classmates and becomes interested in academic pursuits. Schmidt and Jenko throw a party at Schmidt’s parents’ house, inviting Eric. A fight erupts with party crashers, and Schmidt’s victory solidifies his social status and earns Eric’s trust. Jenko’s friends later hack Eric’s phone to eavesdrop on his conversations.
